Waikato Museum

Waikato Museum (1 Grantham Street, Hamilton) – located 1 ½ hours south of Auckland, this museum’s exhibitions and activities tell the stories of this region and include visual art, social history, a Tangata Whenua collection (boasting over 30,000 objects) and science.

 

 

Highlights include the majestic Waka Taua (war canoe), E Nga Uri Whakatupu: Weaving Legacies: Dame Rangimarie Hetet and Diggeress Te Kanawa; Exscite and Planet Warriors, the fun hands-on science galleries for children; a quirky look at Hamilton’s history in Never a Dull Moment and our galleries which exhibit a rich blend of artworks from touring exhibitions and the museum’s own collection.

Hours: 10:00 am – 4:30 pm daily. Free admission (donations welcome).
