Mangere Mountain Education Centre / Guided Walks (Mangere Mountain Education Centre, 100 Coronation Road, Mangere Bridge Village, Manukau, Auckland 2022) — The Mangere Centre offers two guided walks: A geological walk which gives an overview of Mangere Mountain geological features, the Auckland volcanic fields and conservation exploring such concepts as Wahi tapu (sacred places), Rahu (prohibitions, Tangata Whenua (people of the land) and mauri (life force). The Maori walk tells of migrations fro Hawaiki to Aotearoa (New Zealand) and the myths and legends of local iwi. There are also workshops in traditional and contemporary crafts: weaving, traditional tools, kites and games, cultivating traditional seeds and medicinal healing etc. These workshops can be arranged for small and family groups as well as larger groups.
