Ebisu (Britomar, Union Fish Company Building, 116-118 Quay Street, Auckland CBD, Auckland) — aptly, the new Ebisu Japanese restaurant is located in Auckland’s Union Fish Company Building — overlooking the wharves, and promotes the best of the country’s fresh seafood and produce, with dishes created by top chefs who combine both contemporary Japanese and Pacific Rim experience.
The restaurant’s dual heritage is also reflected in its stripped-back design. The Union Fish Company Building, a brick and stone heritage commercial structure dating from the early 1900s, has been sensitively adapted to its new use.
The space has been divided into two parts, the interior and a ‘terrace’ area screened by a glass wall bordering Quay Street. This functions as an outdoor area, bringing in light and views, while remaining sheltered and off the street.
